The Town of Cochrane’s Mitford Pond is located within Mitford Park, a popular recreation location for outdoor enthusiasts in Cochrane and the surrounding area. The 34-hectare park includes an outdoor covered stage, pedestrian and cycling pathways, ball diamonds, soccer fields and a skateboard facility. The pond is a focal point in the park that is used as a skating rink in the winter and for trout fishing in the summer. To further enhance engagement around the pond, OnGrowing Works collaborated with the Town of Cochrane and the Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Foundation to support the design and build of a timber frame pergola. Project considerations included designing a structure that met the needs of multiple stakeholders, accommodated large fundraising events and was durable and vandal-proof.

Thanks to the initial focus on stakeholder engagement and planning, OnGrowing Works supported the design of a beautiful timber frame pergola.

Solution

OnGrowing Works collaborated with Town of Cochrane personnel and user groups to assess user needs and design the pergola. To support project fundraising efforts, OnGrowing Works used CAD construction detail drawings and 3D modelling presentations to help stakeholders envision the final structure. Other services included sampling soil, excavating, conducting concrete form work, placement and finishing, installing custom timber structures and managing sub trades.
