Safety Culture: Why You Should Care
At OnGrowing Works, safety includes everyone. From shop and field personnel to managers and supervisors, it’s a shared responsibility that requires more than just a morning safety meeting. Through safety training and supervision, our team creates a safety culture that provides the tools and knowledge to protect everyone at all times, but more importantly, we also provide the opportunity to practice safety competency through hands-on experience. One of the ways we do this is by pairing our senior team with our less experienced people to ensure everyone has access to the resources and knowledge they need to address potential hazards before they turn into dangerous situations. Whether it’s an extension cord lying on the ground or a slippery piece of plastic, constantly being on the lookout for potential hazards is a shared responsibility that every individual at OnGrowing Works takes pride in. Our conscious effort to implement safe practices creates ingrained behaviours that apply to every landscaping or home construction project – big or small.
Our safety certifications
In the words of our very own Safety Coordinator and Seasonal Horticulturalist Brenda Beck Edwards, “We always strive to be a safety leader and are committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety training and competency.” As part of this commitment, OnGrowing Works is an active member of the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA). Under ASCA, we are a COR certified company, meaning that we have access to a number of provincial safety programs and maintain a proven record of safety standards. With everything from a Principles of Health & Safety Management course to fall prevention and ground disturbance classes, OnGrowing Works ensures our team is up-to-date on the latest safety education.
DIY home renovations safety tips
OnGrowing Works likes to ensure that our commitment to safety is always extended to our clients, especially if you’re working on a DIY project. In the same way that athletes wear equipment to compete in a contact sport, we always recommend that precautions are put in place when doing your own home projects. Personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and ear plugs, should be worn at all times when work is underway. Also ensure that you have first aid training, as well as sufficient knowledge about how to use the tools needed to get the job done. For example, have you used a drill or power saw before and do you know how to use them safely? If you feel that you need more training to safely complete a job, don’t hesitate to enroll in an adult education course or seek professional help.
By equipping our team with the resources and equipment we need to protect everyone on the job, we are creating the best work environment possible. We want to give you and your family confidence that your dream space is being constructed with safety in mind at all times, and we are always happy to address any questions or concerns you may have in the process. Contact us now to get your project started today – safety guaranteed!
