OnGrowing Works had the pleasure of collaborating with former landscaping clients, Tim and Sue to design and install a custom sauna. Tim and Sue considered buying a manufactured sauna kit from a local supplier, but preferred to design and build their own unique sauna. Thanks to the previous positive experience they had with OnGrowing to design and build a deck, a custom gas fire pit and beautiful timber frame pergola, the family once again engaged the team.

Solution

Tim and Sue had a specific vision and budget that they wanted to apply to this project. To accommodate this, OnGrowing Works used their three step process to ensure the budget was adhered to and the vision was exceeded:

1. Plan the Plan: First, the team met with Tim and Sue to establish goals and plan how the project would get done. This gave Tim and Sue the opportunity to collaborate with the OnGrowing Works team, provide feedback and ask questions.
2. Cost the Plan: Next, the team priced the plan, ensuring that the custom sauna would be built within a reasonable budget.
3. Work the Plan: Once the budget was approved by Tim and Sue, OnGrowing Works prepared a detailed construction plan and built the sauna.

OnGrowing Work’s Red Seal Carpenter and an apprentice worked in collaboration with Tim and Sue to construct the sauna. It was strategically built adjacent to their outdoor hot tub using a slab on-grade concrete pad with all associated electrical connecting to Tim and Sue’s home. The final sauna was 7ft x 8ft in size with a 3ft overhanging porch roof to cover the entrance. OnGrowing Works used exposed cedar trusses and posts on the overhang, while the exterior used T&G siding and cedar shakes. Custom hemlock was used for the interior floor and bench, and a vaulted ceiling with integrated dimming pot lights created a relaxing atmosphere. OnGrowing Works placed a Himalaya 90 Sauna Heater with Pure 2.0 Control in the sauna and finished the interior with Penny-Gap Hemlock.
